TOOLS OF THE TIME...PAST TIME EXHIBIT

This exhibit provides a sampling of the many tools and implements that are on view at the museum. Many photos show the tools in use and provide a good setting for understanding each of these very unique items.
SIFTERS, SLICERS AND SPOONS - Grinnell Kitchens 1870 - 1945
This exhibit showcased the functional tools that were common in Grinnell-area kitchens through time. On display were the glass fly-catcher and many pre-electricity items along with mon jars, sad irons and table cutleryare. A mustache cup is shown below. Old cookbooks and recipes showed us how food and food preparation has changed over time. The exhibit was available at the Drake Community Library in Grinnell through the end of December 2012. This will be a virtual exhibit in the near future.
BLOWN AWAY
This exhibit was shown at the Drake Community Library (930 Park Street) chronicling the Great Cyclone of 1882 that left a path of destruction 25 miles long and half a mile wide. Memorabilia from the Grinnell Historical Museum's collection include stereoptican pictures, photos, dishes, a necklace, and a jar of blueberries that went through the cyclone unbroken. Other items on display were lent to the exhibit by the Iowa Room of Grinnell College's Burling Library and by Byron Hueftle-Worley. Thr exhibit was in place through August 2012.
